latet

Latet (“To Give” in Hebrew) was founded in 1996 and is the largest Israeli NGO combating poverty. Acting as an umbrella organization for 200 local associations, Latet provides for the basic needs of populations living in poverty and food insecurity on an equal basis. The organization operates the leading national food bank and runs impactful aid programs with the help of 27,000 volunteers every year, gives ongoing food assistance to 80,000 households and 1,200 Holocaust survivors in Israel, while relentlessly advocating for a better and just society. In March 2020, Latet launched a widespread emergency operation to spearhead the national effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 among the elderly in Israel, by allowing them to stay safe at home while having their basic needs met. Latet led a coalition composed of NGOs, the IDF Homefront Command, Social Services, main philanthropic bodies, and companies from Israel and abroad, to assist 15,000 isolated and impoverished senior citizens by providing them with food and hygiene products right at their doorstep for 3 months.
Latet’s Emergency Response has been the largest citizen’s initiative in Israel undertaken to face the pandemic.
